Axel Herman Haig (1835-1921) was born in Sweden, where he developed an interest in art as a young boy, sketching seascapes and building model ships. His structural designs led to sketches of buildings, and he got a job at an architectural firm in England that specialized in church design. By the late 1800's he was one of the most famous engravers in Great Britain, and his name is widely known to this day. His art can be found in The Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, London, and many other public and private collections.
