<B>Awards and Medals Won by Byrd's Chief Engineer,</B></I> Thomas B. Mulroy, who participated with Byrd on both the Arctic and Antarctic aerial exploration trips. These brave men came back national heroes and were the subject of various parades and ceremonies. This is the collection of keepsakes from Mulroy who was Byrd's chief engineer and close friend. The first item is a large 4" bronze medal designed by Kileny and produced by Whitehead-Hoag with a plane flying over a dog team at the top of the world. The verso has the text "Commemorating the First North Pole Flight By Lt. Comm. Richard E. Byrd May 9, 1926 - Wright Aeronautical Corporation". Other items include: French <I>Légion d'honneur</B></I>; Italian <I>Stella della Solidarietà</B></I>; English Royal Society of St. George; New York City Wanamaker 1926 Byrd Arctic Expedition medal; U.S. Congress Byrd Antarctic Expedition 1928-1930 medal; New York City Mayor James J. Walker Official Reception to Lieut. Commander Richard E. Byrd and Staff 1926 medal; New York City Mayor James J. Walker Presented to Thos. B. Mulroy 1930 medal; State of New Jersey Distinguished Military Service medal; American Defense medal; U.S.N.R. Faithful Service medal; various philatelic and other items regarding the expeditions.
