A striking Victorian-era brass and cast iron counter scale, attributed to Avery & Anderson Bros., Glasgow, circa late 19th to early 20th century. This elegant balance scale features a tall fluted brass column rising from a decorative cast iron base marked "Avery 161W 1128", supporting a finely engineered brass beam with openwork arm and precision fittings. One end holds a suspended pan and weight, while the opposite side supports a solid brass platform. Stamped "To Weigh 7 Lbs, Class 1" and impressed "Anderson Bros. Makers Glasgow," the piece demonstrates the precision and quality associated with British industrial-era instrumentation. Beautifully proportioned and well-preserved, this scale represents the blend of functionality and design characteristic of Avery's 19th century engineering excellence.
