<B>Author Sarah J. Hale Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> “<I>S. J. Hale</B></I>”. One page, 6.75” x 8.5”, Philadelphia, December 18, 1850, in ink, to James Monroe, Boston, with integral address leaf on verso. In this cover letter Sarah Josepha Hale (1788-1879), in her capacity as editor of <I>Godey's Lady's Book,</B></I> sends copies of the <I>Lady Book</B></I> to a Boston publisher whose books she has reviewed and included notice of in the publication. Hale is credited by some as the author of the nursery rhyme ”Mary Had a Little Lamb” and was a major force behind the creation of the Thanksgiving holiday. The letter displays the additional creasing in addition to the usual folds, some light soiling, and a small portion of the upper left corner is missing, else very good condition. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
