Austrian Werndl Model 1867 /77 .11.4 x 58 R cal single shot full wood Military Rifle w/33" bbl [ blue finish turning brown, faded in more by rcvr, good wood w/cleaning rod, sling swivels - After the Austrians lost the 7 Weeks' War to Prussia ( and the Dreyse needle guns ) in 1866, they initially converted thier Lorenz muskets to breech loading using the Wanzl system as a stop gap. They then adopted the Werndl as a newly manufactured breech loader, single shot, which used a rotating drum breech system. The factory set up by Werndl & Holub ultimately became the Steyr arms centre. Conversion dates 1868 ] Ser # 65432
