VERY SCARCE! From the Van Dyk World Gold Collection!! 61 piece set of Australian Gold Half Sovereigns in seldom offered high grade. All but 2 coins certified by PCGS and include all dates and mintmarks except for the rare 1855 and the 1918 which was struck in India and not released until the 1960’s.

Australian 1/2 Sovereigns are a great series to collect. First minted in 1855 they were minted until 1918. Struck at three different mints; Sydney, Melbourne & Perth. 1/2 Sovereigns are quite different compared to the larger Australian Gold Sovereign. Firstly the mintages are quite small roughly 1/10 that of the sovereign. Secondly many sovereigns were used in transactions both overseas (London, India & Europe) and internally between banks. This ensured high survival rates and from time to time bank hoards. The 1/2 Sovereign on the other hand was used extensivley in day to day commercial transactions. High grade examples are rare & in early issue even coins in VF are very hard to source. <Br><Br>
The Van Dyk collection represents a great opportunity to acquire a set of coins that otherwise would take years to assemble. Many key coins are in quite nice grade. Note the 1865 in EF45, a coin with a mintage of only 62,000. The 1882-S, perhaps the rarest piece after the 1855 with a mintage of 52,000. The most underrated piece in the series is the 1887 M a mintage of 64,000, coming onto the market so rarely that most collection have a VG or Fine at best. Other worthy coins include the 1900 Melbourne, the rare 1906 Melbourne and the very elusive 1908 Perth (mintage of 25,000) which is evidenced by one Mint state example only. The noteworthy feature of the Van Dyk collection is it's problem free nature. All but two coins graded by PCGS attests to it's quality. All coins are individually photographed.

BIDDING PROCEDURE: We will be running eBay Live Auctions for on-line bidding. You must pre-register with eBay in order to bid live. Proxy bids can be placed on eBay Live Auctions at www.ebayliveauctions.com at any time up to approximately one hour before the start of the auction. In the event you are bidding as agent you must register to bid and be agreed to do so by us in writing prior to the sale. Such a circumstance where we have so agreed both you and the third party would be jointly liable for all and any bids.
PURCHASER’S COMMISSION: For eBay Bidders a 17.5% Purchaser’s Commission will be added to the Hammer Price. Successful Bidders wishing to use Paypal or Credit Card will be subject to an additional 2.5% handling fee. Selling Price constitutes the sum of the total Hammer Price plus the Purchaser’s Commission.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE: Bidding of this auction is in Canadian Dollars. Those persons wishing to bid in US Dollars may do so with the bids being converted at the current exchange rate on the day of auction. Payment of account may be made in Canadian or US funds. In the event of a swing in exchange rates between the time of the auction and the date of payment on account resulting in a substantial shortage in the conversion of a bidder’s payment to Canadian dollars, the bidder shall be liable for all such shortages.
GRADING STANDARDS: Always ensure you buy what you like! Remember certification is discretionary. Never buy a certificate or grade. Grading is subjective. Canadian grading standards are different than American services. The Canadian services evaluate coins mainly for technical grading using three primary elements being; the condition (whether the coin is mint state or circulated) strike of the coin and luster. American grading standards however grade coins using five primary elements being; condition, strike, luster, color (toning) and eye appeal. The descriptions in this sale have taken into account the various grading services & standards using all reasonable measures to ensure that each and every lot in the sale has been properly described and authenticated to the best opinion of the cataloguer.
GRADING AND DESCRIPTION OF LOTS: Most of the coins in this sale are certified by third party grading services including, ICCS, PCGS, ANACS and NGC. Third Party Certified Lots are sold as is and cannot be returned for grading disagreements. Discrepancies in grade should be taken up with the appropriate grading service. All other lots have been graded and are the opinion of the cataloguer based on his 30+ years of skill and expertise. These grades may or may not agree with the opinion of other qualified experts. All lots are available for viewing on our website.
CATALOGUE VALUES: Estimates are in Canadian dollars. Values listed for Canadian Coins are based on the current Canadian Coin News Trends or taken from the Cornwell Report Valuation Guides (used for pricing on the higher grade pieces). The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins has been used to value Specimen and Proof strikes. Charlton’s Canadian Banknote Catalogue and Canadian Government Paper Money Guide are used for pricing of the Canadian banknotes. The USA 2006 Red Book, Coin Dealer Newsletter and Coin Values Magazine are used for
values on US Coins. Foreign coin values are taken from the Krause Catalogue of World Coins. Prices for Cameo Coins received from the Canadian Coin Dealer Newsletter and Certified Canadian Modern Issues.
CHARLTON CATALOGUE NUMBERING SYSTEM: Throughout this catalogue, use is made of the Charlton Catalogue Numbering System for ease of reference by the bidder. The copyrights to this Numbering System and to these Numbers are the property of Charlton International Inc., which has granted us permission for this use.
TITLE OF LOTS: Title to all lots remain with the seller until payment in full is received. Lots are not shipped until full payment is received. No exceptions will be made.
SALES TAX: Lots delivered outside of Canada are exempt and no taxes are collected. Lots delivered to New Brunswick, Newfoundland or Nova Scotia are charged 14% HST of the Selling Price. For lots delivered to the remainder of Canada, 6% GST is collected, no exemptions.
SHIPPING AND INSURANCE: Postage, insurance, shipping and handling fees are added to ALL SHIPMENTS. The minimum flat fee shipping rate of $10.00 will be applied to each Canadian shipment. Items will be sent via expresspost with signature requirement for proof of delivery and includes insurance. Bulk lots are heavier, more costly with the full shipping costs including proof of delivery and insurance being the responsibility of the buyer. The minimum flat fee shipping rate for U.S.A. and International is minimum $15.00 which will be applied to each shipment. Items will be sent either registered mail or expresspost with signature requirement for proof of delivery. Larger or heavier bulk items and lots will be more costly and are the responsibility of the buyer.
Shipping rates will be based on the weight, size and alternative shipping methods including signature for proof of delivery. Bidders outside of Canada must provide detailed shipping instructions as well as agree to all terms and costs as listed prior to items being shipped.
RETURN POLICY: All sales are final with no exceptions. Third Party Certified lots are sold as is and cannot be returned for grading disagreements. Discrepancies in grade should be taken up with the appropriate grading service. Absolutely no bulk lots whether or not identified as “No Return” will be accepted for return for obvious reasons. No price adjustments will be made to a lot where an authenticity issue is in question regarding any one item within the lot and/or the lot as a whole.
A claim for a refund for reason of an item not being authentic, misattributed or incorrect except where noted in the description must be made within 5 days of receipt of the goods. Any item that is accepted for return must be received in the original holder with seal intact and original packaging. No exceptions will be made.
PAYMENT OF ACCOUNT: Settlement must be made immediately upon receipt of the invoice which said invoice will be automatically generated and emailed to you via Icollector.com. We accept Paypal.
