This fine photograph is a cabinet card of the Keystone Stable belonging to John S. Recend. Photograph measures 8”x4 7/8”, white single matte 8 3/8”x5 1/4”, high contrast, and focus is sharp. There is some minor foxing on the photograph. Traveling photographer James H. Crockwell produced this photo from his Salt Lake City Studio although he worked in Utah, Nevada, and California from 1883-1900. Eleven people pose for this photograph. There are two wagons harnessed to horses, one horse and buggy, and one buggy unharnessed. A Native American sits on the wagon to the far left. Directories indicate Recend had a livery business in Austin by 1890 (Haddock, Alpha Listings of Nevada Businesses from Directories, 1988). Recend's livery business, according to the Nevada State Gazetteer, 1907-08, "Meets All Trains and Delivers to Any Part of The City" (284).
