Aurora,NV - Esmeralda County - Photographs :
Lot of 9 photographs from Aurora, NV. For years the town was governed by both California and Nevada until it was finally determined the town was 3 miles inside the Nevada border. Founded in 1860, it had produced $27 million in gold by 1869. There were 17 mills, 175 stamps, and a population of 10,000. Aurora became the county seat. However, water was filling the mines faster than it could be pumped it out, spelling the end of the town (Ref: ghosttowns.com). Included in the photographs is one of the Esmeralda Hotel, the former Court House; as well as a headstone from the cemetery for William Carder, assassinated in December, 1861.
