Augustus, 27 B.C.-A.D.<p> 14. AV aureus minted at Lugdunum, 11-10 B.C. Laureate head right of Augustus/Apollo Citharoedus standing right, holding plectrum and lyre; "ACT" in exergue. 7.87 g. RIC 192a [as Rarity 3], BMC 481. AU50 ICG, scattered light marks in reverse field. Note the small "ACT" letters on the reverse: this very rare coin commemorates the victory of Augustus at Actium. The reverse probably depicts the main Apollo statue in the temple of Apollo Actius, dedicated in 28 B.C. While his given name was Gaius Octavius, we usually classifying all the coinage of Octavian under the title Augustus, which designation was conferred upon him in 27 B.C.From the Collection of Dr. Joseph M.
