LS in French, signed “Aug Rodin,” one page, 5 x 7.75, no date but postmarked Paris, May 23, 1915. Letter to Gustave Geffroy, the director of the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins, in full (translated): “Do you want to support the sale of the sculpture of Lagare to the commission of the State? This sculpture seems to me to be an effort that could be encouraged. He would like to have your appreciation of his work and asks you to receive him.” Matted to an overall size of 12 x 14.75, with a window on the reverse for viewing the original mailing envelope, addressed in Rodin’s hand. In fine condition, with trivial soiling and creasing. Born in 1870, sculptor Eugene Lagare was considered one of Rodin’s most promising pupils, exhibiting several well-received bronze and plaster pieces at the turn of the century, most notably at the Salon of 1906.
