Auguste Nicholas Cain (1821-94) French sculptor; known as the "Official Animal Sculptor" of France. An authentic bronze sculpture, "Family of Tigers", showing a tigress bringing a dead peacock to her cubs. It measures 15" wide, 13" high & 6" across. The "Great Bronze" of this group is in Paris' Tuileries Gardens and a copy is in New York's Central Park. The plaster model was shown by Cain at the 1867 World's Fair (Group 1, Class 3, #16) and in the Paris 1873 Salon (Exhibit #1549). The "Great Bronze" was commissioned by France and shown in the 1876 Salon. This is an original bronze sculpture, cast by Cain, and signed at the bottom. VG. $5,000-7,500
