August V. Jaeger, Painting ‘Idyll on the Bieler Lake’, c. 1930
This oil painting shows an idyllic view of the Bieler Lake that is located in the ‘Three-Lakes’-region in Switzerland. It was painted by the Swiss artist August Valentin Jaeger (1881-1954) around 1930. The depiction of the lake has undoubtedly been inspired by the artist’s natural perception. His foremost intention was however dedicated to the atmosphere and its expression in light. Accordingly, the painting has a beautiful impressionistic character.

The oil painting is in a good overall condition with only small traces of age and use. The coarse canvas can therefore be clearly seen through the bright parts of the sky, which is caused by dust. The work is signed "A. Jaeger" at the lower left. The stretcher measures 43 cm in height and 51 cm in width. The frame is well preserved and only shows small traces of age and use. It measures 48.5 x 55 cm. (cbo)

August Valentin Jaeger (1881-1945)

August Vanetin Jaeger, born in Strasbourg or in Metz, started his career with a diploma as an art teacher. Accordingly, he would never give up his teaching profession, whereas he also became a quite well-known artist himself. In 1905, Jaeger met the famous artist Adolf Hölzel (1853-1934), whose artistic style influenced him a great deal. Since 1921, he lived and worked in the small town Solothurn in Switzerland. The central library of Solothurn published August Valentin Jaeger’s catalogue raisonné in 2002.
