***Auction Highlight*** 1890-cc Gold Liberty Double Eagle $20 Graded Select Unc By USCG. The Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 and increased gold deposits at Carson City, as the Comstock Lode shed much of its last remaining resources, made the 1890 gold coinage from Carson City the fourth-highest in the facility's history, and third-highest when one includes the silver coinage. The 1890-CC double eagle was struck to the extent of 91,209 pieces, plentiful for Carson City but meager in comparison to the vast outputs of the era in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Perhaps 300 examples of the 1890-CC twenty survive today in Mint State. The present MS62+ example is tied for 5th finest known, with the finest being a lone ms63+ that has never come to auction. The last ms63, sold in 2013, and it realized $41,125 and I have included a picture of it. I feel our lustrous example compares very favorably. Deep, even reddish patina covers each side of this piece, which displays bright, lustrous fields with a dab of lilac intermingled. Plentiful luster radiates throughout each side. The reverse die shows evidence of heavy lapping, as seen by the missing tailfeathers on the right side of the eagle. Some field chatter appears, but appropriate for the grade. Among the finest survivors, both technically and aesthetically, of this historic issue. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
