The devices are well-struck, and each side exhibits a hint of light champagne tinting. With a small mintage of only 700,000 pieces, and the vast majority melted after it gained territory status, The 1883 Hawaii half dollar is quite scarce today, much more so than the Quarter or Dime. The 1883 Hawaiian "Hapalua" was struck at the San Francisco Mint on U.S. Half Dollar planchets.
