The Centennial Exposition, a celebration of American independence observed in Philadelphia, was a nation away from the San Francisco Mint, but the Western facility nonetheless produced a huge number of 1876-S double eagles, nearly 1.6 million pieces. The large total was more likely due to the Comstock Lode in Nevada, which saw its peak production of gold and silver from 1876 through 1878. Besides the Centennial date, the 1876 issues are popular as the last of the Type Two issues, with TWENTY D. on the lower reverse. This MS63+ specimen displays thick frosted mint luster on each side amid orange-gold and interspersed pale lilac patina. The strike is sharp, and no obvious abrasions interrupt the high aesthetic appeal. I have included two examples both other ms63+, for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
