Repunching in the date is blatant on the last two digits, showing underdigits that rise above the final punches but more prominently on the 7. Snow suggests in his latest magnum opus that the "initial 7 may be either a small 7 or a deformed regular size 7." The surfaces of this MS64+ Red piece are highly lustrous with blond-gold color prevailing amid glints of light orange. This coin is from the later Snow-1b die state, showing light die rust lumps on the cheek before the lowest curl, and a light die crack connecting the fletchings on the reverse with the left ribbon tip. The Snow-1 Repunched Date is popular as one of the most blatant "naked-eye" varieties in the entire Indian Cent series. The present piece is exceptional not only for the high technical quality but for the well-within-Red color as well; Snow points out that most examples, even Mint State ones, appear on planchets exhibiting "streaky woodgrain toning" that instantly disqualifies the coins from being able to grade full Red. This piece is among the finest known Red examples. I have included two examples for your comparison, an ms4+ rd and an ms65 RD. I think ours compares favorably to both.
