***Auction Highlight*** 1855-o Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By USCG. Per PCGS only 100 Survive in all grades and Only 2 Examples in mint State.
This Very Near Uncirculated example holds the Lone spot at 3rd Finest Known and the Highest non mint state example. The two Mint State examples are both ms61 and neither has come to auction since 2004. In 2004 and 1999 they sold for $23,000 each. The last au example to come to auction was an au58 in 2019, which sold for $11,700 and an au58 that sold in 2014 for $17,625. No au58+ is graded such but the coin at hand. Doug Winter reported two varieties of 1855-O eagles, one with a repunched date and the other with a normal date as offered here. My own analysis suggests that the first variety is actually the result of machine doubling. The 18,000 coin mintage was a sharp drop from previous years as the San Francisco Mint operated for their first full year in 1855. This example ranks among the finest of survivors. Just two Mint State pieces are known, along with a small number of AU58 and AU55 examples. While lightly marked, this example has nearly full mint luster with satiny yellow-gold surfaces. An appealing example for the advanced collector. Again, It holds the lone spot at 3rd finest Known. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
