***Auction Highlight*** 1851 D Dahlonega Gold Dollar $1 Graded BU+ By USCG. Up for auction is a terrific Dahlonega Gold Dollar from 1851. Given the rarity of most Dahlonega gold dollars in Uncirculated condition, the 1851-D defies its small mintage (just 9,882 pieces struck). Perhaps as many as 60 Mint State pieces survive, according to the Bowers' Guide Book of Gold Dollars. Doug Winter suggests just 15 to 20 "truly" Uncirculated pieces exist. This MS61 example displays attractive reddish and lilac highlights throughout the vibrant, orange-gold surfaces. The strike is bold, lacking obverse sharpness only at the highest points of Liberty's hair. The reverse strike which is characteristically weak at LLA of DOLLARS, is not on this example. It is Variety 3-E, with the leaf just to the right of center of the last 1 in the date. I’ve included another ms61 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
