***Auction Highlight*** 1849/1848-p FS-101; Finest Known!! Semi PL Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded BU+ By USCG. Up for Auction is the finest known example of the 1849/1848 $10 Gold Piece. This spectacular coin is listed as the VP-001, as well as the fs-101 and originally as the Breen B-6888. It is Die that Walter Breen described as the 1849/1848, which is what it looks like to me. Per NGC, they feel the numerals “849 were repunched northeast of the first impression” Per David Akers of PCGS “Some 1849 Eagles offered in the past were claimed to be overdates, i.e. "1849/8". However, the specimens I have examined appeared to me to be repunched dates rather than overdates and I do not believe a true overdate exists.” In any event, if you go to PCGS site, to date they have only graded 2 examples as this overdate/repunched date, both of which are low end xf40 examples. NGC has graded about 20 coins (some are duplicates), with 1 coin grading ms61 and 6 as au58 (many likely duplicates). The example at hand is clearly either the finest known, or near Top Pop! Wow! Good Luck! A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
