***Auction Highlight*** 1701 Willian IIII Great Britan 2 Pence Silver Penny Graded ms65 By SEGS. Up for a Auction is one of a 4 coin set we are bringing to auction in Fall 6. It is a great four coin set of 1701 William III “Silver Pennies” from Great Britain. The four coins include the one Pence, two pence, three pence and four pence. The four pence was referred to as a “1 Groat”, and the others correspondingly as ¼ groat, etc. The issue is of notable importance as the English Silver penny had been struck for over a thousand years, with 1701 being one of the the final issues! Wow! The English penny (plural "pence"), originally a coin of 1.3 to 1.5 grams (0.042 to 0.048 troy ounces; 0.046 to 0.053 ounces) pure silver, was introduced c. 785 by King Offa of Mercia. Throughout the period of the Kingdom of England, from its beginnings in the 9th century, the penny was produced in silver. A Corey's Pick
