Our 17th bi-annual poster auction includes 386 poster lots of various themes.

The PROPAGANDA & MILITARY section includes 45 works from World War I through World War II, including a number of US military posters, some rare Russian photomontage and propaganda posters from the inter-war years and several German and Hungarian items. A prime example of the Russian poster graphics is the zeppelin poster (lot 21) titled “Defend the Power of the USSR.” The ADVERTISINGsection includes food & drinks, tobacco and general consumer goods. A small part is entirely dedicated to old beer and Oktoberfest posters (lots 61 - 78). The Art, Design & Culture selection is as diverse as it can be. Following a selection of Art Nouveau posters and Maitres (incl. Alphonse Mucha’s “Sarah Bernhardt la Plume” in lot 185 and Eugene Grasset’s “Grafton Gallery” in lot 188) is a selection of modern graphic design posters from around the globe. Works include rare posters by Max Bill (lot 215), Josef Müller-Brockmann (214), Herbert Bayer (the rare large version of his 1968 Bauhaus poster, lot 213) and Erik Nitsche (the ‘submarine poster from the General Dynamics series, lot 236). The TRAVEL selection is also very broad, including sports,maritime and railway posters. It includes a several works my Southern pacific Rail artist Maurice Logan, a number of Olympic posters and even posters by modern popular artists such as David Klein. A rare poster for the Gordon-Bennett balloon race from 1912 (lot 333) and an 8-panel Hamburg America Line ocean liner poster (lot 3860 are among the highlights.
