Mary Moser's father was George Michael Moser (1706-83), a Swiss medallist and engraver who was well connected in the London art scene of his day. From an early age his daughter Mary, whom he trained, demonstrated real talent as an artist winning her first Society of Arts medal for a still life aged fourteen. She became a regular exhibitor in this genre and her ambition as a professional artist led to her becoming a founding member of the Royal Academy at the age of forty-two. In 1792 Moser garnered a lucrative royal commission, to decorate a room in Frogmore House, about a half a mile south of Windsor Castle in Home Park.
Her works can be found in the Royal Academy London and a portrait of her by George Romney can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, London (NPG 6641).
