A) Manufacturer: German Model: Flintlock
Originally established in the 1650's the Kuchenreuter Family was a supplier of top quality arms to nobility and the wealthy, claiming Emperor Napoleon I, Frederick the Great, and other luminaries of the era as their clients. A set of Kuchenreuter pistols were believed to have been used by Polish Count Franciszek Ksawery Branicki and noted Venetian socialite and womanizer Giacomo Girolamo Casanova in a duel over the hand of an Italian actress. Johann Jacob Kuchenreuter (b.1709, d.1783) and his son, Andreas Jacob Kuchenreuter (b.1746, d.1814) both operated out of Regensburg. Dovetailed brass blade front sight and a fixed notch rear sight, with fine silver scroll inlays on the upper flats flanking "Jacob * Kuchenreuter", a beaded silver band border at the breech, a golden Hussar proof on the chamber, attributed by the consignor to Johann Jacob, and "1" on the tang. Lockplate is unmarked, with a thin engraved border line, countoured hammer and frizzen, and an adjustable hair trigger. European walnut stock, with a horn tipped ramrod and forearm, decorative scroll carving around the triggerguard and ramrod pipes, a flared butt with steel buttcap, and checkered wrist panels with steel tack outlines.
