An Attractive John C. Fremont Ambrotype in One of His Most Familiar Poses This is a photograph of an engraving, an image employed on numerous ribbons, paper, and other campaign items in 1856 when Fremont ran as the first Republican candidate for president. This image was also used on Civil War patriotic items as well as for his 1864 splinter candidacy. Some very minor emulsion deterioration, but as the catalog photo show, it is a fine image overall. The ambrotype is set in the original half-leatherette case with a brass loop at the top for suspension. Image measures 1.4" x 1.8", overall measurements 2.4" x 3". From the Stanley King collection.

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
