Attractive Gold and Silver Inlaid Walther Model PP Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster, Attributed as a War Trophy Taken from the Home of Rudolf Hoess

According to the included affirmation, this pistol was the wartime bring-back of one Louis Bardenstein, a soldier with the 69th Signal Battalion, XX Corps, a component of Patton's Third Army during the drive across Europe. The affirmation also tracks the provenance of the pistol, which has remained solely in Bardenstein's family since his return to the States, and which Bardenstein claimed to have liberated from the home of notorious Nazi and mass murder 'innovator' Rudolf Hoess. At war's end Hoess was on the run, first disguising himself as a no-name Kriegsmarine man and later a gardener, evading detection until 1946, and no doubt would have left such an elaborate pistol behind in his flight. Except for the "crown/N" proofs, the standard markings are executed in gold inlay, and the surface is decorated with a combination of silver and gold floral and border line decoration, with dot accents on the frame and triggerguard and a blank shield on the backstrap. The grips are smooth two-piece, and the slide features the early pattern 90 degree safety. A brown leather flap holster is included with the pistol, marked "oak leaf/1942" and "WaA938" (Albrecht Kind) on the lower flap and ink stamped "Mauser 7.62" on the interior. Holster is fair, with cracking, and the slide interior is unnumbered.
