Manufactured in 1911 and subsequently professionally custom embellished with floral scroll engraving with a matte background. The revolver has 80% coverage on the barrel, frame, cylinder flats, trigger guard, front sight and grip straps. The engraving on the recoil shield and loading gate is a deep relief and the top of the back strap has a bears head. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40" on the left side and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates in a banner followed by the Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Blade front, frame notch rear sights, blue with casehardened hammer and frame. Fitted with smooth ivory grips with silver Colt medallions. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 to W.H. Hoegee Company, Los Angeles, California on September 18, 1911. Complete with a wooden case with red velvet lining. It is reported that this revolver once belonged to the actor Gary Cooper, however there is no documentation to support the claim. There is an inventory list with this revolver listed partially stating "Possibly one of a pair (Other owned by Paul Gilliland) reportedly from Gary Cooper estate?". The case has two label maker label affixed to it, one "GARY COOPER" and the other "GARY COOPER COLLECTION".

Condition: Custom embellished with 99% plus high polish blue and casehardened finish remaining. The grips are excellent with a few minor age cracks, a pleasant mellow patina and attractive grain. The cylinder rotates freely, cocked or decocked, other wise the action functions well. The engraving remains sharp. The case is good with some scattered minor chips and scratches.
