Charcoal on paper, newly framed. Featuring a portrait of two women. Signed and attributed to Tono Zancanaro (Italian, 1906-1985) on the upper left corner, dated 1964. 23 x 28 cm (9.1 x 11.0 inches). Frame size: 31 x 36 cm (12.2 x 14.2 inches). Tono Zancanaro, Painter. He devoted himself to painting from 1932: significant for his formation were contacts, in Florence, with O. Rosai and, in Padua and Milan, with the anti-fascist environment. His research has always been carried out within the realism that often (especially in the grotesque deformations of the satirical-political series of "Gibbo", 1942-49) acquires surreal tones. Among the most significant cycles of his vast pictorial and graphic production: the mondinas of Roncoferraro and the flood of Polesine (1951-56), the Sicilian "carusi" (1956-62), the series of Piazza Navona, of Selinunte, Villa Palagonia, of Poppea, of the Foscariane. PROVENANCE: Southern Ontario estate.
