Atlas ORTELIUS, Abraham.- Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. ( Antverpiae, apud Aegidium Radaeum Gandensem, 1575). In-f° : [10 dont titre gravé] ff., 66 [sur 70] ff. de cartes, [48] ff. (fortes us : pliures, marges effrangées, déchirures marginales sans manque, plis centr. fendus, mouill., saliss., qqs cartes déreliées, annot. mss). Rel. du 17e s. : plein parchemin (rel. très fort abîmée avec manques divers). Quatrième édition latine du "Theatrum" mais première d'une autre presse que celle de Gilles Coppens de Diest qui, à partir de la princeps de 1570, fit paraître 11 autres éditions de l'atlas et de son supplément (ou "Additamentum") en latin, néerlandais, français ou allemand. Si les cartes de notre édition sont les mêmes que celles de l'édition latine de 1574, il s'agit bien d'une nouvelle édition au niveau du texte et la première à comporter la "Synonymia Locorum" et le traité "De Mona druidum insula".Notre exemplaire contient 66 cartes en noir (manquent la mappemonde et les cartes de l'Amérique, de l'Asie et de la Barbarie).# Koeman 1969, Ort 13.Exemplaire enrichi de 44 cartes d'origine variée (ens. 110 pièces) : quelques-unes d'éditions ultérieures du "Theatrum" (par ex. "Argonautica" et "Parisiensis agri" de l'éd. française de 1598, la planche des empereurs allemands de l'éd. latine par J.-B. Vrients de 1603, "Limburgensis ducatus" de l'éd. anglaise de 1606...), d'autres empruntées aux éditions successives de l'"Additamentum" ou du "Parergon", ou de sources extérieures comme les cartes d'Afrique, de Bourgogne et de Lorraine par G. de Jode, ou celle d'Utrecht et Hongrie par P. Kaerius (1616 et 1620), "Alpinae regionis" par Cluverius (1618), etc. A noter encore : un plan de Rome signé Pirrho Ligorio et une carte "Sacra Tuscia" dans le style de Lafreri, c. 1550.Provenances : marques mss illisibles, datées 1624 et 1703. 14.000 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 3.000 BEF will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 7.000 BEF or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Belgian francs (BEF).
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 50.000 BEF.
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
