Extremely rare air stock with a vignette of a Jules-Verne style aeroplane. Incorporated in 1896, issued June 4, 1897 to FW Thompson for one share, uncancelled. Signed by president Charles A. Smith and the secretary. Comes with the original cover (postal cover) with the same vignette. This is an absolutely wild looking rocket-airplane!

According to an 1897 article in Sanitary & Heating Age, Hiram S. Maxim was supt. and in charge of construction. (Maxim the creator of the Maxim gun, the first portable fully automatic machine gun). Maxim states that the company's airship will make a trip to the Klondike next spring. He describes it as powered by a 16 horse-power naphtha engine, weighing 5,000 bounds and having a double skin. The space between the skins will be filled with hydrogen gas. An 1897 Electrical World, Volume 29, article adds more details: the ships will be 200 feet long, the cones 35 ft. in diameter. The engine is now a 180 horse-power Maxim engine. Working models are said to be on display at the Spreckels Building in SF. A large quantity of aluminum has been purchased from the Pittsburg Reduction Company. Fascinating pre-Wright Brothers flight history! State: California City: San Francisco Date:
