The rarity of these notes can easily be understood by examining the conditions which existed when this very bank was chartered in 1866, with Atlanta and much of the remainder of the state in ruins and with the antebellum economy having been laid waste by the depredations of the just concluded Civil War. The survival of any of these notes, especially Original Series examples (of which only a literal handful exist), is a virtual miracle. This piece is one of two listed in the Kelly census, but it is the only one known to us and the only one ever to have been offered at public sale to the numismatic fraternity. Fine, with a small split repaired on the back, a truly great Georgia trophy item worthy of a place in the finest of collections.
