Three items: a color glossy 8 x 10 photo of Mantle finishing his swing, signed in blue felt tip, “Mickey Mantle”; a color satin-finish 8 x 10 photo of Mantle standing beside Roger Maris, signed in blue felt tip by Mantle; and an ALS in pencil from Bill Tilden, signed “Bill,” no date but postmarked December 7, 1949, in part: “Tempus is forgetting and I am getting shorter & shorter and more eager to get out naturally but am trying to keep it cool & calm at least until Sunday when I’ll see you again…It looks to me as if Pancho [Gonzalez] is slipping and [Jack] Kramer is carrying the scores along. I knew he was not in Kramer’s class. I guess [Pancho] Segura has really gone ahead as a pro. He sounds tough to beat.” In overall fine condition, with scattered surface spotting and white marks to edges inherent to the original negative of the Mantle and Maris photo. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope from Tilden, addressed in his hand and signed again in the return field, “W. T. Tilden.”
