Athens AR Tetradrachm, 440-404 BC, NGC XF. The very popular Athena with owl ancient Greek silver coin. This issue was struck between 440 and 404 B.C. NGC deemed this piece to be authentic and awarded it a grade of XF, with a strike of 5 out of 5 possible, and a surface rank of 2 out of 5. There's a "test cut" on the owl's head on the reverse, which was done at the time that this piece circulated in ancient Greece. The details and surface quality are actually in the AU range, but the grade is reduced due to the test cut. XF/AU examples of this design sell for over $1,500 at major auctions.
