<B>Johann Franz Encke Autograph Document Signed</B></I> "<I>J.F. Encke Prof.</B></I>" in Latin, one page, 6.5" x 3.75". His signature is incorporated in the title at top, "<I>Commilitonibus honoratissinies/J.F. Encke Prof.</B></I>" Not translated but what Encke has written is related to astronomy, mentioning stars, Moon, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter. Johann Franz Encke (1791-1865) learned Latin while he was a student at the College at Hamburg, the Johanneum. Working at the observatory of Seeberg near Gotha, he discovered the orbit of a new comet which bears his name; he became director of the observatory in 1822. In 1835, Encke was appointed the first director of the observatory in Berlin. Two years later, he discovered a gap within a ring of Saturn now called the Encke gap. In 1851, Encke determined a new method of calculating planetary perturbations by means of rectangular coordinates. Four tiny holes in blank perimeter.
