The present vintage print by Astrid Kirchherr depicts George Harrison, who was the lead guitarist of the famous band The Beatles. The work belongs to the ‘chair session’ that Kirchherr executed with the band members in 1962.

Astrid Kirchherr (b. 1938)

Astrid Kirchherr was born in Hamburg in 1938. In 1960 she finished her studies at the fashion, textile, graphic and advertising Institute in Hamburg. In the same year she met the Beatles in a nightclub in St. Pauli and became their first professional photographer. The German magazine ‘Der Stern’ commissioned Kirchherr in 1964 to document the Beatles during their shoot for the video ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’. Kirchherr’s photograph on the album cover ‘Wonderwall Music’ by George Harrison is known as the last published works of the artist. Her photographic documentations on the Beatles are some of the most iconic images worldwide and have been published in countless books and magazines. (cbo)
