Lot of letters, several with their covers included, written by Frank W. Blake assayer. Several discuss gold in Golconda, where, “In 1869 Blake took a foray in to Golconda, Nevada while continuing to run his assay office in Silver City (Idaho). The Golconda business lasted less than a year, and he returned to Silver City, where he continued to run his business empire with the acquisition of a jewelry store and other real estate” [Rush for Gold! America’s Gold Rushes, Summer 2008, Holabird-Kagin Americana, p.468]. Blake is perhaps better known for his dealings in Weaverville, Unionville and Silver City, which is what makes the Golconda chapter so interesting. For a detailed chronology of Frank W. Blake’s career, see pgs. 465-470 of the above mentioned volume. The letters in this lot are all in excellent condition and easily readable. -59257
