This lot contains about 9 years of assay, payroll records and other paper work from the Tonopah Mining Company of Nevada, between 1906 and 1917. Included in this vast archive are hundreds of time checks; documents that were filled out by the shift foreman, indicating the amount of shifts and the pay owed to individual employees. One example shows that Albert Whitney, a mucker, worked three shifts at the rate of $5.50 a shift, but because of a $10 deduction, he netted only $6.50 for his labors. While muckers and topmen were the lower wage positions, according to the documents, being a machine man like Herman Johnson earned a higher, $6 a shift, rate. Also included in the archive are monthly store reports detailing purchases and utility costs for the mining operation, as well as assay certificates and reports for the aforementioned years. All the documents, and there are several, are in good to very good condition, with very little age fade. - Maish Collection -58845
