</font></strong>?Watching and Waiting? is a beautifully original pastel drawing done by the talented R. Brown. The drawing depicts a little Asian girl pressing her hands up against the pane of a window, as she watches and waits for someone or something. It seems to be snowing outside for the white flakes are clearly visible against the darkness of her hair, and perhaps that is what holds her attention. Another clue that it is cold outside is the fact that the upper right hand corner of the windowpane has been frosted over, obscuring part of her head. She is dressed in vibrant and rich colors, which might be significant depending upon her cultural background. She wears a pink clip in her hair, which matches her rosy lips and cheeks and completes her cute appearance. Brown has truly captured the curiosity of a child in the intense almond shaped eyes that gaze to the left of the picture plane. The only thing that holds this little girl back is the windowpane that her little hands are pressing against. The smooth and velvety texture of the medium is accomplished through blending the different colors together and through the use of a soft paper. This piece has been double matted with a charcoal grey bottom mat and a black suede top mat, both of which nicely complement the shadows and darker tones of the drawing. The sleek silver wood frame, with its black inner liner, that houses this delightful character study adds a more modern air to the piece while playing a more neutral part to let the drawing ...
