This lithograph in colors by the Danish artist and CoBra founding member, Asgar Jorn, was created in 1958. The lithograph, titled ‘Provocation Ratée’, depicts abstracted forms in black on red and green color fields. The print is part of the series ‘9 Intimes Graphoglyptiques’, published by Altelier Clot, Paris.

The lithograph in colors is signed and dated in pencil lower right ‘Jorn 69’, as well as inscribed in pencil lower left ‘EA a. Jacques’. The sheet is slightly toned, partly irregularly toned in the lower margin. It is cut along the lower edge. The sheet is mounted under a mat. The dimensions of the mat cutout are 59 x 40.5 cm and the sheet is 68 x 51.5 cm in size. The total dimensions, including the frame, are 76 x 56 cm.



Asger Jorn (1914-1973)

Danish painter Asgar Jorn was born 1914 in Vejrum, Jutland. In 1929 Jorn took private lessons in painting at Martin Kaalund-Jørgensen. He moved to Paris in 1936 to study at Fernand Léger’s Académie Contemporaine. He was also a co-founder of the artist group CoBrA and participated in documenta II in 1959 and documenta III in 1964 in Kassel. He is considered the ‘Picasso of the North’.
