Asahel Curtis Rare Original Large Plate Orotone
Asahel Curtis Very Rare Original Large Plate Orotone of Mount Rainier and Paradise Lodge in the original frame. Signed in the negative, lower left "© 55450 ASAHEL CURTIS". Plate size is 24" x 20" and the overall frame size is 29" x 25". Asahel Curtis (1874-1941) was the younger brother of another legendary photographer, Edward S. Curtis. Asahel went to work for his brother's Seattle photography studio in 1894 and, in 1897, went to the Yukon to document the Klondike Gold Rush where he remained for two years. Thus was launched a major photographic career. The two brothers eventually parted ways over the rights to these Klondike images as Edward had originally published them under his name. In 1911, Asahel opened his own studio in Seattle and became widely known for his Washington landscapes, especially those of Mount Rainier. He was a staunch booster of this area and was instrumental in its development and preservation. This is an image that the serious collector won't want to pass up. Excellent condition save for some wear to the frame.

Shipping: Framed - without Glass, Large (view shipping information)
