Arthur Singer was born in 1917 in New York City and became one of America?s best known bird artists. His first commission for a series of State Bird Prints became a huge success after being published in American Home Magazine in 1957 and by 1958 he was offered enough illustrating contracts to become a full-time bird painter. Singer went on to provide illustrations for ?Birds of the World? as well as ?Birds of North America,? ?Families of Birds,? ?Birds of Europe,? and ?Zoo Animals.? ?Birds of North America? has remained a best seller with over 6 million copies sold since it?s first publication and is still regarded as Singer?s best known work.
Original Singer paintings can be found in such noted museum collections as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Museum of Natural History and the Genesee Country Village and Museum. His work has rarely come up for auction with the majority residing in the private collections of Stephen Rockefeller, The Du Pont family, Prince Phillip, King of Norway, the King of Sweden and Singer?s own family. His lifetime output was well over 1200 plates and hundreds of oils and watercolors, many of which have been reproduced in various printings.

The first print is the second of the series of paintings depicting the Mountain Bluebird, state bird of Idaho and Nevada, and the Eastern Bluebird, state bird of New York ...
