Original pen-and-ink wash artwork by Rackham entitled 'The Soot-Fairies' games with the White Kitten,' from the 1915 publication The Queen's Gift Book, accomplished on an off-white 8.25 x 10.25 sheet, signed in the lower left corner, "A. Rackham." Nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 14.5; reverse bears a Heritage Book Shop label. In fine condition, with mild soiling. The Queen's Gift Book was an anthology of prose and poetry by authors including J. M. Barrie, John Buchan, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jerome K. Jerome, and Mrs. Humphry Ward. Rackham's illustration was for the story 'The Soot-Fairies' by Beatrice Harraden. The volume was published to raise funds for Queen Mary's convalescent auxiliary hospitals for soldiers and sailors who had lost their limbs in World War I.
