Arthur C. Pillsbury Original Silvertone Photo
Arthur C. Pillsbury Rare Original Silvertone Photograph of a stand of trees lining the shore of a pond. 10.5" x 13.5" sight size, framed in a beautifully complementary antique-style frame to 16" x 19". Arthur Clarence Pillsbury (1870-1946) was a U.S. photographer of great significance. The son of two medical doctors, he studied at Stanford inventing a new type of panoramic camera and a microscopic specimen slicer while there. After school, he traveled with his camera all over the western U.S. and the Yukon capturing hundreds of wonderful images, especially of Yosemite. He was one of the first commercial photographers to embrace the publication of his photographs on the then-new medium of picture postcards. He would eventually invent and pioneer the use of the microscopic motion picture camera, the X-Ray motion picture camera, and the first underwater motion picture camera. He produced a number of nature films and toured the nation showing them and preaching his gospel of natural conservation.

This amazing silvertone print is much rarer than a comparable orotone (goldtone) and was made using a similar process. It is eerily gorgeous with wonderful tonal range and contrast and a shimmering quality that has to be seen to believed. Excellent condition.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Medium (view shipping information)
