Clarke: Signed First Edition of <I>Childhood's End</B></I></B></I> (New York: Ballantine Books, 1953), first edition, 214 pages, red cloth with black titles, 8vo (5.5" x 8"), dust jacket. The author has signed "<I>Arthur C Clarke</B></I>" and underlined his signature on the front free endpaper. The book is about fine, with light toning to the text edges. Small chips to the sunned dust jacket spine, and moderate wear at the edges, corners, and folds, else fine. An enormously popular novel anticipating Clarke's major thematic statements in <I>2001: A Space Odyssey.</B></I> Number nine on Pringle's list of the 100 best science fiction novels.
