Arthur Ashe's 1984 day planner. Journal was consistently used by Ashe all year to remember appointments and record the important events in his busy life, which changed dramatically just a few years before when he survived a heart attack and retired from tennis. Ashe's priorities are revealed through his concise, utilitarian entries, which serve as reminders for his various public engagements and events of personal significance to him. In tennis, Ashe notes various worldwide match-ups, including Wimbledon, the Davis Cup, the U.S. Open and more. He includes reminders for a Davis Cup round table interview and meetings with the ATP and USTA. He records frequent media appearances, travel and various personal events, birthdays and the like. Ashe also mentions Jesse Jackson, Julio Iglesias and Whoopi Goldberg. Notations in Ashe's hand appear on most every page of the spiral-bound Day-At-A-Glance book, save for a a few days off the whole year. Features a brown faux-leather soft cover. Measures 5.75'' x 8.25''. In very good condition, with mild toning throughout and wear to cover edges. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
