Arthur Ashe's 1973 day planner. Journal was consistently used by Ashe all year to remember appointments at the height of his awe-inspiring career. He published an entire book about the thrilling 1973-1974 year, playing tennis all over the world, called ''Portrait in Motion.'' Ashe's concise, utilitarian entries serve as reminders for his various engagements. He pencils in Angela Bassett, Dionne Warwick, Senator Kennedy, Faruk Kahn and Cosby. He also notes a meeting with fellow tennis pro Bunny Austin and jots a quote from him: ''Bunny: What you are may 'say' more than what I say''. He schedules ''Catalina w/ Okker'', the WCT Doubles, an ATP meeting and of course extensive travel. He comments on one page, ''Got nasty letters from England'' and ''Spent 5 hours writing London Times piece''. Notations in Ashe's hand appear on most pages of the spiral-bound Day-At-A-Glance book. Features a black faux-leather soft cover. Measures 5.75'' x 8.25''. In very good condition, with mild wear to edges. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow. A personal record of each significant day in one of the tennis legend's greatest years.
