Arthur Ashe's 1981 day planner, with notations written in his hand. Journal was consistently used by Ashe all year to remember appointments and record the important events in his busy life, which abruptly changed two years prior, when he suffered from a heart attack and was forced to retire. Ashe's priorities are revealed through his concise, utilitarian entries, which serve as reminders for his various public engagements and events of personal significance to him. Tennis engagements include ''Masters Week'', with match-ups listed of various players, ''ATP Board Meeting'', the Davis Cup, Wimbledon and more. Personal reminders written by Ashe include, ''Father's Birthday'', ''Jeanne's Birthday'', ''My Birthday'' and more. On his busy social calendar, he lists various weddings, drinks and cocktail parties, including ''Hall of Fame Dinner / I am Emcee / Black Tie'', ''White House Trip'' and more. Media appearances include ''Good Morning America'', ''Post Column'' and he also keeps track of sporting events across all disciplines throughout the year. Notations in Ashe's hand appear on most every page of the spiral-bound Day-At-A-Glance book. Features a black faux-leather soft cover. Measures 5.75'' x 8.25''. In very good condition, with only mild wear. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
