Arthur Ashe's 1980 day planner, with all notations written in his hand. Journal was consistently used by Ashe all year to remember appointments and record the important events in his busy life, which abruptly changed in 1979 when he suffered from a heart attack and was forced to retire in 1980. Ashe's priorities are revealed through his concise, utilitarian entries, which serve as reminders for his various public engagements and events of personal significance to him. Personal reminders written by Ashe include, ''Our engagement'', ''Parents' Anniversary'', ''family reunion'', and many more. On his busy social calendar, he lists various weddings, drinks, cocktail parties, including ''People Mag Luncheon'', ''Hall of Fame Luncheon'', among others, and media appearances on ABC and the Dick Cavett show. His traveling was extensive, to Paris, Acapulco, Wimbledon, and many places around the U.S., sometimes within a single week. He also keeps track of sporting events across all disciplines throughout the year, including the Ali-Holmes fight. Notations in Ashe's hand appear on most every page of the spiral-bound Day-At-A-Glance book. Features a black faux-leather soft cover. Measures 5.75'' x 8.25''. In very good condition, with mild toning throughout. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
