''East End'' Civic League citizenship award given to Arthur Ashe in 1966 when the rising tennis star was still a student at UCLA. After receiving this award, Ashe went on to win some of tennis' highest accolades, including Wimbledon as the first African American. Gold plaque has ornate black border, engraved: ''East-End Civic League Citizenship Award to Arthur Ashe Jr. for Community Leadership and Achievement / Donated by Walter J. Manning Memorial Foundation / 1966''. Plaque is affixed to a piece of wood in the shape of a shield and measures 8.75'' x 10.5''. A few very minor scratches to gold, else near fine. With an LOA from Ashe's widow.
