In his 10 years of Davis Cup play, Ashe won 27 singles games. After retiring in 1980 due to a heart attack, Ashe continued to support the sport of tennis in a multitude of ways, including becoming the coach of the U.S. team in 1981, leading the team to victory that year. Circular stand has a silver border with a smooth black velvet center, presumably to rest the cup upon.
