<B>Artemus Ward: <I>His Book</B></I> Signed Edition.</B></I> (New York: Carleton, 1867), 224 pages, numerous black and white illustrations, original black cloth covers, gilt lettering on spine, embossments and tooling on covers, 5" x 7.5". Signed: <I>Artemus Ward.</B></I> Ward was actually named Charles Farrar Brown, but used the <I>nom de plume</B></I> of Artemus Ward. He was a humorist writer, whose peripatetic style inspired and captured the hearts of such notable men as: Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln, and Dan De Quille. The book itself is in very good condition; the boards are faded and lightly warped from water damage; the first few interior pages also suffer some warping from the moisture; numerous pencil scrawlings on the free front endpapers from a previous owner.
